what's the best way to repair small tear in awning?

Got a small (five inch) tear in the awning fabric, where the piece that's in the roller joins with the main piece... What's the best way to repair? staples? sewing? Is there maybe a fabric glue? M...

I used Ebond tape several years ago on the old style awning on our 2000 Itasca Horizon. Worked great. NOT double sided tape however. Our present coach has a different looking awning fabric. It would likely work as well, just have not tried it
