Ours didn't really tear, but the stitching was sun rotted and all of the thread on the seams started giving out and the awning was coming off from the tract at the top where it fastens onto the rv. We removed the awning, bought a used sewing machine at a thrift store, purchased thread used for outdoor purposes and resewed all seams. We re-installed and overall cost was $35.00.
