They don't use wooden dowels on these doors - if that's what you mean by mechanical fasteners. Probably didn't put enough glue, so you don't see it now. White carpenter's glue cures clear anyway. Get $3 carpenter's glue from Home Depot and put it together, just don't skimp on it.
Most reliable things are usually the simplest, and a single-piece cabinet door, while not pretending to be something more expensive, will serve you until hinges fall apart.
