Where to buy crimped battery cable

I'm looking to finish a DYI inverter install and want to buy battery wire in fat gauges around 0, crimped. I want to keep all the runs as short as possible so want to specify an exact length, like 14 inches, rather than just getting a stock 2 foot cable.

I'm in a big city (San Diego) - where can I look for such a thing? The auto parts store didn't do it.

BTW, after I pulled off the 4 AWG cables off my batteries as part of the install, I pulled on each of the crimps and found most of them loose, with perhaps 2-3mm of give, in the direction of the wire (i.e., you pull and it clicks forward 3mm, and then you can push it back 3mm also). Is that normal, or indicative of a bad crimp?
  • I saw some fairly nice premade cables at American battery in Escondido, inland north county san Diego.

Call up some marine stores too, they might be able to point you somewhere closer that can make a nice cable. I have a hydraulic crimper good for 2awg thick walled ring terminals, but no cable or terminals.

My orders of just wire and terminals and heatshrink, not custom made cables, from Genuinedealz usually arrive to San Diego from florida in 3 to 4 business days after ordering, priority mail, USPS.

Specify the length, gauge, lug size. Don't forget to specify the color - black or red. They will add labor cost, not much. Very happy with their products.

I used these folks. Nice folks. When I called them to order 4g wire with terminals, I casually mentioned that I wished they had 4 feet of green cable. He said he actually had about 10 feet of green, but it wasn't on the web site. He had special ordered a spool for a custom order and had some left over. I was able to match the color scheme of the wires I was replacing, even the green.

It's not difficult to do them yourself. Just practice on a few of them first. I'm far from any place that could do it so I figured I could throw the tool out when I was done but it still works just fine. I brought it with me this winter and crimped cables on a new friends rig. He ordered one now just because he thought it was a great tool. :)

The one we had while I was working was $1,800

Ah, well I never knew it was a cheap(ish) handheld tool. Still, I'm full-timing at the moment in a class B, so I don't have much place for any super-specific tool like that one and for the ~10 crimps I need I won't likely recover the cost...

Thanks! Someone else pointed me to that site before, but I'm pressed for time at the moment so I was hoping to find a old-school brick and mortar place I could pick them out, but I've reached out to them to see if they have expedited shipping.
  • I found mine at the battery store where I got the Trojan 6V batteries. I specified the gauge, lug size, and length, they made them up for me at a very reasonable charge.
