It doesn't just make white "whiter". It changes all the colors around you to less "colorful". As somebody noted, colors look "washed out". But it also looks more contrast, better for office or kitchen work.
The problem with Chinese LEDs - beside inaccurate lumen ratings - is that not only color temperature may be different from what it
says on the box, ex. warm white can be OK or too yellowish - but the spectrum can also vary, ex. it can be greenish or pinkish.
Thanks for the insight on washing out the colours. As for Chinese LEDs... I'm all for button North American made, but I highly doubt anything let alone LEDs are made here
