Most of the ice makers in residential refrigerators are either made by the same company or they at least operate similarly. The last three or so refrigerator/freezers I've had have had an issue with the ice maker that is similar to yours. After fooling around with heaters, checking temps on the freezer and refrigerator, checking the timing on the ice maker it always ends up that the problem stems from the timing mechanism located at the very front of the ice maker. You can buy a replacement for about $50.
