I just happen to be trying to do the same thing right now. You should be ok with 1200 inverter but some models may be pushing it. It's difficult to find technical info onn friges but some do have high defrost loads. I'm running a xantrex 2000 prowatt. There are not many choices of refrigerators available in my area so I bought a Magic chef/vassani from Home Depot and just returned it this morning. It seemed to work ok at first but ended up never shutting off and kept pulling 8 amps all the time. It had a locked rotor rating of 10 amps which is 100 amps DC or 1200 watts. In the thread that I started a few days ago a couple people recommended the Whirlpool WRT111SFDB. It's 1/2 inch too wide and would stick out a little too far in our case. I also found a Whirlpool FFTR1022QB which is 24 in wide and 60 tall.
According to the energy guides these units will use about 75 to 100 ah per day. People suggest planning on 100 ah a day in real world use.
What frig models have you been looking at?
I've been looking at the 24" wide Frigidaire models. 2 @ 26" deep-1 is energy efficient. 2 @ 28" deep-1 energy efficient. Note that the Magic Chef/Vissani Owner's manual states " This unit is not designed to be installed in an RV or used with an inverter."
Yes, I read that and notice that none of them are probably intended to go in the space we have. I had a fan ventilating the cabinet. Even the wrt111 says 1/2 on all sides so the cabinet would have to be 25 in. I would have to look at the construction of the interior of my cabinet and possibly remove the interior panels to open it up to 25 inch.
The Frigidaire FFET1022QB requires 1 inch on the sides and 12 in on top. I cant even open my cabinet width to 25 let alone 26. I haven't looked at every one of them but they pretty much just are not going to fit our needs. If the cabinet cant be open that much I think we could work around the clearance issue by running a fan. I'll probably attempt it again next summer when I have more time. I just checked my Dometic temps. -5 in freezer and 39 in frig. Now as long as I dont wake up to fire truck sirens all is well.
They also state that they have an in home service warranty so it would have to be hauled out of the rv and into a house. Pretty much buying it with no warr. From reading some reviews it seems they are pretty much throw away. They cant do much when it comes to servicing something and it only cost $400 when it was brand new. Some people also complained about waiting for parts or not being covered by warr because the frig was on a porch or in a garage. I would install it with the intention that it's a throw away.
