I wonder if Renogy Z brackets could be put in a vise and straightened so I could do a side mount for easy removal? They also have 2 holes for mounting to roof so I could use well nuts/
The most elegant way to make a mounting bracket that attaches to the module and allows side mounting arrangements: Buy 2" aluminum angle stock. Cut into pieces to accommodate installation quantity. Drill holes on both surfaces of angle piece, one attaches to module through hole and one hole is used to attach second angle to the first and thence, to the RV roof. So, two angle pieces for each mounting location, four locations typical for 12V solar modules.
I would skip the well nuts although I know some have used them with success. Using two fasteners (# 10 or #12 sheet metal screws) into the roof at each bracket will hold in all but the thinnest luan roofing sheet. Installing the fasteners into a ceiling rafter is even better. If you don't want the mess of using a flowable caulk to seal the fasteners, an alternative is to drive the fasteners through Eternabond tape. The tape will ride up the threads of the screw and even form a cap over the top of the fastener. It is **** near magic!
Good luck with your installation!
