You could have a wire size problem, but the microwave doesn't know or care what the wire size is. It will run on any size wire, until it melts or pops the breaker! So I would not state with this.
I would try running another high watt device on the same plug and see what happens. A space heater, or hair dryer for example. If they run ok, then the microwave is the problem, or the power isn't clean enough to run the micro and it cuts itself out.
