Thats exactly right. The focus is on the batteries, as the installer also found. I thought 2 new 12v batteries in series might help when everyone was focused on voltage drop, but really 4 - 6v batteries would probably do the trick. And may be his 4 year old 6v batteries are actually bad and cant handle the heavy draw.
May be when the OP gets some new batteries everyone can stop going off topic and offering useless advice how the OP can use everything but his microwave. Unreal...
