I believe a GoPro Hero 3 Black has about 100 feet of wifi range connected to your smart phone. I'm not 100% sure on that range but I know it's more than what cab to end of your trailer would be.
That curvature of that "fish eye" effect is due to the wide angle lens on these types of cameras. Another plus for a GoPro would be they're waterproof! My SIL has one and regularly takes his in their pool to film the grand kids.
Actually for looking backwards it's almost the same as the back up camera on my RAM, which is great for seeing "the whole picture". :B
