Wifi booster.

I have an unlimited data plan on my smartphone so I use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop and anything else needing internet. I have no need for the campground's wifi.

Which unlimited plan do you use?

lucky you. The UL plans I see don't allow hotspot, or it's limited.

I have Verizon unlimited data plans. With the data plan I get free mobile hotspots. Verizon is the only internet we have. Wife has the same plan on her phone. When we're home our TV and other items are tied into the hotspot in my phone. When I'm not home my wife's phone takes over.

The UL plan I see allows 4g service up to 20gig, then it throttles..and that's the most expensive plan.

Worth a thought though as my current plan is 24 gig.

The throttling down in speed past a certain data quantity limit is the big gotcha in the so-called "unlimited data" smart phone plans.

What we RV'ers need - and I'm sure the providers are aware of it - are affordable plans for cell tower based (or even satellite based) Internet appliances that are like the wireless Internet service we have broadcast to our residence here in the mountains - unlimited data with no slowing of speed (throttling). Our home Internet access - always on with no data limits - wireless Internet service (not cable, cell tower, or satellite based, by the way) is around $72/month and is fast enough so we could stream video continuously if we wished.

I'm guessing ... but it will probably take the new upcoming 5G cell tower based Internet service to provide this affordably across the U.S.. But it probably will be introduced into the town/cities first ... and later out into the rural areas and boondocks (if ever) for us drycamping RV'ers.

We use two plans, A straight talk plan that allows 60 gig before they question your data usage, and a Verizon plan which throttles at 22.

By watching our usage we max out the straighttalk, usually in about 26 days at around 55-57 gigs, and then use the Verizon for the rest of the month.
Total cost, two phones, and all the data about $110 a month.
