wifi passwords

Everyone on You Tube says they can find wifi all over the place.
But, how is that possible when everyone wants you to put in a password, and you don't know the password. How is wifi use possible without a password.

I also have a phone, but I need to go on line with my computer and am looking for ways to do it at a reasonable cost.

So the real question is how to find and use free wifi?

Most RV parks that provide 'free' wifi have poor signal and service and often many limitations. You will need to seek it out in your travels and make adjustments to your schedule if you want free.

    Otherwise you can pay...
We use public libraries most of the time. I have yet to encounter one that charged a fee. But we always leave them a donation as a thank you.

Some states offer free WiFi at their interstate rest areas, Iowa is one. But there is too much foot traffic all around you for any privacy at all.

    Re: free VPN.
Was unable to find ANY work-able free VPN to watch Hulu from Canada. Majority of free VPN don't work at all, don't even waste your time. Those few that do, would assign some weird IP location like Ukraine or Zimbabwe, useless for my purposes. I "think" one did work for a while, though slowed connection down too much, and then stopped working. Proves old saying - you get what you pay for.
Can't trust any of them in terms of security either.
Oh yeah, - and Hulu ever since then have been trashing my mailbox with offers, ads and promotions :)

Not everyone password protects their wifi.

All routers should come pre-configured with a password, but that didn't use to be the case in the early days of wifi.

if you're in a public place with wifi there may not be a password. if there is, ask. we were in a restaurant last night that offered free wifi but there was a password. a server provided it to me when asked.
