OK, thanks! I think I see the problem -- the inverter is hard-wired to a 12 volt socket, and the wires are very thin. I will see if there is a way to install an inverter right to the converter, to take advantage of the thick wires running to the battery. In answer to the various questions, I am certain that the battery is more than adequate -- fully charged, new group 31, meticulously maintained. We have two (one to use, one as a spare).
And yes, the furnace is a big draw, but we don't want to use a radiant heater. We just run the furnace for a few minutes a day (mostly during shower time).
And Steve, yes, we are still thinking about Utah this weekend -- probably Capitol Reef -- but the weather forecast continues to deteriorate. I don't mind freezing weather, but I am not going to intentionally tow a trailer 600 miles through a full-on blizzard, if I can help it. We may have to cancel or re-think our destination.
