OK, thanks! I think I see the problem -- the inverter is hard-wired to a 12 volt socket, and the wires are very thin.
Exactly how many watts (and type-brand) is your inverter? Perhaps if it's a really cheap one, it can draw way more amps than you'd expect. Anyway, if getting it off the socket helps, good, but so far that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
A single battery can experience a substantial voltage drop when running things like a furnace...and maybe other things you don't even know about. A voltmeter is your friend.
