Small & long cables to the inverter is the obvious reason for the alarm. But, as others have mentioned, you shouldn't overlook the battery. You don't want to find out later when camped in 3' of snow that the battery is dead.

The voltmeter is your friend. Use it! How much voltage does the battery drop when inverter charges laptop?
