Smkettner, using jumper cables he tried to start the engine using the house battery. He said it did not work. I hadn't thought to start the generator, nor did he. The generator will charge the engine battery? Of course the best is too carry an extra alternator belt. When GS roadside assistant sent the first tow out, the guy looked under the hood and said, "YEP all your belts are there, but your alternator needs replacing". Jumped him and send him down the road. Only got 50 miles before he had to pull into a Walmart, buy some jumper cables, and sleep for the night. Next day he had to call for assistance again this time GS operator said they would send out a truck with a battery, It would cost $90.00 to CHANGE the battery plus the cost of the battery. He had stopped in front of a church in Varina, VA. The good people of the church fed him, took him to the NAPA, to pick up a belt and a new battery, then put it in for him. That was what made me think there could be an alternative to the alternator to just help in getting home.
