Winter and summer slid on generac primepact 50g

Anyone know what the summer or winter slide is for or what it does to my generator? Mine started surging and I am about to do a tune up on it and a fuel filter. I am wondering if this slide could be t...

I just tuned up my NP-50G. I bought the spark plug at wal-mart the oil filter and air filter for Generac. The spark plug is a Champion RC12YC, AC R45S or Fram Autolite 65. That is what's in the owner's manual. I used the Champion.
