Winterizing

I am going to be winterizing twice dthis year. I am slow and it takes me roughly 1/2 hour.

Don't foget the outside shower, black tank flusher, and city water hook up. :h

I live in Northern AZ and we go to the So. Cal dunes a lot in the winter. I use the air method and winterize 4-5 times a year. It takes longer to drain the WH than the rest of the job.

Moved to Tech Issues forum from DIY.

Go camping. Start a conversation with a neighbor who has an older camper. Mention that you have never winterized and need to learn how. I bet you have trouble turning off the flow of information you will get.

I ask so I don't have to pay the $150 again. (or ever)

Winterizing your own camper should be as familiar to you as hitching. Do it yourself. It only takes a few minutes after you've done it the first time and worked through it.

A man I have done a lot of work for ended up paying my to repair the damage done when the RV service place did a bad job of winterizing the prior fall.

He asked what I do. I explained the whole process. Then I walked him through his coach and we located the low point drains and some other problem spots. When he asked about "Red Pop" as it gets called locally. (A reference to a local soft drink.) I told him that that is only for drains in my view. Then I laughingly (I thought) told him that if he does the air blow out, but is unsure, he should put some food color in a gallon of cheap vodka and run that into the lines.

When we talked again (we was looking for a quote on a simple upgrade), he thanked me for showing how to winterize. I was a bit taken aback when he said it has been great, but the ice is bad and the coffee is strange until the "blue water" runs out....

If you haven't figured it out, I will leave you to think about it.

Always just used air on our TT's and was never a problem. We got a used MH that had been winterized with pink stuff and it took 6 months to get it out of the lines. I would never put pink stuff in the lines.

Look at it this way, if you don't learn how to do it, you'll be paying $150 for many years.
