Perxactly, and yeah it's a dream just like those damned compound action wire crimpers.
I've been reading your posts for 2 or 3 years now and you seem to miss the old school stuff. I can relate to your plight, but the industry is moving away the old way and moving towards a digital age that I don't really understand why.
I work in an old factory that has a mix of old school stuff and new school stuff. I understand the old analog equipment and also the new digital equipment so it kind of puts me in the middle of a technology transition. The older guys wanted everything analog, the new guys want everything digital.
I'll give you an example of how the new digital age is screwed up. We have a new piece of equipment that has a standard motor start/stop circuit. We've been starting and stopping motors for a hundred years or more, it's easy, a mechanical contactor and a thermal overload protection device. The new motor start/stop system has an Ethernet interface that uses a communication connection to start and stop a motor.
Now you tell me how reliable that will be in 20-30 years from now? It won't be and it saved the company a few hundred bucks in wiring costs, but probably several thousand in down time over the years fixing it when it breaks.
I understand your position, but there is also a place for some automation here and there.
