Wiring outdoor outlets from 30 amp campground plug?

Hi all,

We recently moved our TT into a permanent site where we have access seasonally (summer). Our site is provided with a single 30 amp plug, and our unit is only 30 amp. We are building a deck and screen room alongside the trailer, and also have a shed nearby. I want to install lights and plugs in the screen room & shed. I also probably want an outside plug mounted somewhere.

I fully understand we only have 30 amps total, and don't anticipate that being a problem at all. These would be low draw, and occasional use. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Should install some kind of exterior 30 amp breaker panel, and wire the room, shed, etc on one breaker, and the trailer itself on another? Run a cable from the 30 amp park receptacle, to this panel, then mount a 30 amp RV receptacle beside the breaker box for the trailer to plug in?

Or am I making this way too difficult? I'm trying to think of something that will work for the long term. Any suggestions?

Is this in Canada or US... Probably would require a county permit doing anything here in the US... Different counties here have strange laws about just having a telephone pole in the middle of a lot and running electrical lines from from it to things... Our County here in Virginia does not allow permanent living in a RV Camper except at established trailer parks. My neighbor here is wanting to build a work shop and storage shed on the back side of his lot near the woods and is having all kinds of discussions with the county folks authorizing him to run Electric to it. He has just about decided to run his generator out there when he needs power... They probably have laws against that as well haha... The same neighbor just added a back yard patio structure to his house and I saw the county inspector vehicle there at least three or four times when that was on-going... They did not want the patio structure connected to the house... Certainly isn't like the old days...

I certainly would check-in about getting the proper permits before putting money into it...

  • It seems to me that you may be better off running the shed and outdoor plug out of your TT that's already plugged in. (pole -> TT -> shed and outdoor plug) Less mess @ the pole and you can control the power going out to there from your existing breaker panel?
  • make a wye or an outside rated aluminum box with a 30 amp outlet and 15/20 amp outlet that plugs into site outlet.

  • For anything that's permanently installed, the easiest and likely most proper thing to do is hire an electrician.

What's the parks owner say about the idea?
