Without Thinking Buy New and Don't Even Consider Repairing

Ain't Life Great"

"SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — California's largest operator of recycling redemption centers shut down Monday and laid off 750 employees.

RePlanet closed all 284 of its centers, and company president David Lawrence said the decision was driven by increased business costs and falling prices of recycled aluminum and PET plastic, the San Jose Mercury News reported. The move came three years after RePlanet closed 191 of its recycling centers and laid off 278 workers."

Most likely it goes straight to the landfill. To the landfill--The Guardian

    91% to the dump

I made sure to pick a lefty paper so fellow travelers cannot complain. People around here are charged extra for recycle bins and they are suckers as PT Barnum defined. And just to top this off, almost all plastic is made from the black stuff...you know: OIL

And all that plastic can be recycled back into oil again
    Why isnt anyone doing it?

Or we could just use Biodegradable plastics made from hemp plant

  • My local community, they pay more per ton to have the recyclables picked up, then the trash.

Somehow driving these big oil leaking fuel sucking trucks around makes the greenies feel good.
  • Not to worry. Cali will pass some more laws and fix it all.

I use a different non-corporate family run local area recycler. Today, I noticed the local RePlanet space was empty and the bins were gone. IMO, a good thing. Their business was poorly run so I stopped using them. Half the time I went there (many Los Angeles area locations) they were open, but, not accepting material because their bins were full. Some of the time I went there and they were supposed to be open, but not a soul in sight. Hopefully they found someone to recycle their recycle bins and their employees since it looks like they won't be needing them anymore.

  • Recycled material is a glut on the market, too much supply not enough demand and prices drop. No surprise there. They were shipping the stuff all the way to Asia so it's intrinsic value was roughly zero. Then those countries refused to take it anymore. Thus no one wants it except in limited amounts.

Recycle companies have been charging cities to pick the stuff up for years.
