Thanks for the info on the 122-0833 short and stubby filter.
I searched around last night for the 122-0836 which i believe uses a 3/4-16 thread size. WIX and Donaldson didnt appear to have a close match. WIX has the 57398 but its shorter. My mechanic friend said its a pain to install and recommended sticking with the Onan brand. This is for the genny where the bottom of the filter just barely sticks out the bottom.
Also looked up that iFJF brand. Didnt find much. Their homepage calls it an "online filter" and has the common English spelling errors. Based out of china. Looks like maybe they hooked up with amazon.
Unless someone knows of a video i might cut open my Onan filter. Always wanted to do that.
The WIX 57398 has a micron rating of 32.
The short and stubby 51064 is rated at 21.
Tried looking up the Onan filter and the cummins website says the Onan 122-0836 is the Fleetguard LF16165. But when i look at the LF16165 specs its the same 4.4" height as the WIX 57398, which is shorter than the Onan. I still need to pull the Onan filter off and will measure it myself. For a second i thought maybe the Onan filter is just a fleetguard painted black, but the difference in height suggests thats wrong.
Here is a clip from the Cummins sight regarding the short and stubby Onan filter. Might be useful to some of you.
-------
Cummins Onan RV oil filters feature valves that allow oil to bypass the oil filter during cold starts, or if the filter becomes plugged. Other manufacturers' oil filters often do not have bypass valves. As these "will-fit" filters trap debris, oil pressure starvation can occur, leading to high oil pressures, failed gaskets and even engine damage. Other "will-fit" oil filters do contain bypass valves but they do not determine at what PSI the valve opens. If the setting is too high, the filter's paper element can be damaged during a cold start rendering it useless, or cause oil starvation to the engine.
Customers have comments that the replacement oil filter (part #122-0833) they purchased for their Cummins Onan Quiet Diesels appears to be the wrong size. We hear this a lot! Filter #122-0833 has replaced filter #185-5801 and filter #185-5409. Despite the difference in outward appearance, it will fit your set and the oil ring will provide a proper seal.
