Your choice, I'd rather disconnect. In your case, voltage drop is excessive for whatever reason so I'd want to know what that reason is, not just blindly step it up. In the OP's case we're not talking about a voltage issue but rather a dangerous wiring issue that could kill him, in which case an EMS which won't allow connection to the faulty source in the first place is the best answer, not a step up transformer that won't do anything at all to address this problem.
