And yes you damned right I am arrogant about the unwashed passing themselves off as professionals.
Any good tech is arrogant Mr. Grainer as you yourself have proven in written text too many times to count on this forum. If you weren't arrogant (most of which is total, exasperated impatience similar to my own) I would question the upper ten percent of your competence. Consider this a compliment.
People who charge top dollar are supposed to deliver product.
And the endless complaints I read here, and have experienced first hand while working regarding batteries not switched off, undiagnosed ne incomprehensible to the tech battery drainage change parts until the parts replaced box is filled up (proofing the repair is secondary), is another clue.
This has not changed since the days of my rebuilding. Customers who sneered they could get a lifetime warranty alternator or starter were shown little mercy when at last they showed up with a garbage can parts core that was unusable. What I wanted to hear from a potential customer was "Why are your alternators twice the price of Grand Auto?" If the statement of "I have less than one tenth of one percent valid warranty returns during the one year warranty" made no impression, I could pass on that customer and never miss him. I used tattle-tale diodes in ALL my remanufactured alternators. A return meant everything was dropped and the alternator was split. If the diode was blown the alternator was connected reverse polarity. They had better fess up fast. I had a modular KODAK camera just to take pictures of the blown diode. Let's take it to Small Claims Court. I had a few people try to warranty alternators that slipped the belt so bad it turned the drive pulley blue. I would charge HONEST people who fessed up to their error (my parts cost only) to fix their problem. I would also offer them the chance to bring their vehicle in and have it diagnosed correctly. FOR FREE. It all depended on their attitude.
The primary vendor had business when no one else in town had a lineup. Word travels.
I did work for both Cruise America and Good Sam. They would tow RVs in from the LA area. One man, a staff member of Cruise America bluntly said "When you fix them, they're fixed" The man's first name is unforgettable, CRUZ. Good Sam bluntly stated "You recover damaged rigs that might be totaled" Part of that was the ship's carpenters who performed magic with damaged wood.
So yeah I am impatient. Why do you think I rant at failed lawyers who rival the worst mechanics in a race for leading edge superior incompetence?
For my products I do not engage in a personality contest. I've no time. I do have time to listen to things like my LED light system being operated 18/7 for five years, twenty nine modules - zero failures. These are true 50 watt output chips.
And of that one-tenth of one percent genuine failure of my remans, guess what ALL OTHER WORK GOT SHUTTLED. The warranty came first. There is noting in the world as effective as a fanatically loyal customer base for advertising.
