Westend: Interesting idea. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible. The cover plate has louvers for ventilation covering one side and the door to the breakers on the other. There's no room for a switch on the faceplate. The black wire is not long enough even if I were to take the whole unit out to run the wire up the back and install the switch on the surface above.
Can I then simply disconnect the "converter pos" black wire and cap it? My understanding is that the OEM converter is redundant with the Freedom inverter/charger handling that job and that having two converters in the system is the cause of both the overcharging and battery drain when not hooked up to shore power. If for any reason I would need to have it operational again I could simply reconnect.
BTW, the trailer has been disconnected for a few days now and the battery levels appear to be remaining constant at 12 volts,down from 13 something when it was connected. dropping to 11.9 if I turn on a light and then returning to 12 volts shortly after I turn the light off.
