My prosine 2000 is giving me a fault code that temp 1 is too high. If I clear the fault or if I power the unit off and turn it back on, it will start and charge the house batteries at a high current (about 75-80 amps) for about 3-5 minutes. Then I can hear a relay click and the overtemp alarm comes in again and the charge shuts off.This was attempted during a warm august day but I've used the prosine year around in much warmer temperatures.I put my hand on the xantrex box itself and it is warm but I've noticed it warmer.Two questions:Is this xantrex a goner? ie should I replace it? I've read that xantrex doesn't share wiring diagrams making troubleshooting a problem.Second question on researching a replacement inverter/charger is that all of them take a power derate when operated above temps about 25C (77F). Where do you keep your inverter? Mine is located in a basement compartment in a Class A motorhome and I'm guessing the only time it sees less than 77F is on a cold winter day.

Is the fan running? Could be the problem.

It's original equipment so it's 7 years old. Is the fan accessible and replaceable? Is it like a computer fan that I can replace? (can't recall but I think it was running.)Does anyone locate their inverter charger inside the coach?

Xantrex support is probably worth a shot. It's hard to say what could be causing this.

Anything with cooling fans require at least yearly attention to blow out the dust and dirt and check the fan for easy rotation. Not sure why manufacturers put in fans guess it's less costly than properly designing a unit that can convenction cool. Moving parts including fans typically cause problems before anything else.

If the unit works for a short duration before tossing out the defective code then you do not need a new unit - it needs to be cleaned up - get rid of the dust and dirt - a good air compressor will do the job a vacuum will not work

I agree with the previous answers (except for the one about Xantrex Tech Support being worth a shot). If the unit has run well for seven years--5 years out of warrantee--and is only now throwing overtemp codes, then something is wrong with the air path.

Since a new one is another $1500, I would throw ten bucks at a new fan, once the unit was cleaned up. Also, nothing wrong with an external fan, drawing hot air OUT of the unit.

As for the small compartment, that certainly isn't helping. I have mine installed in a large cabinet and the fan comes on at the drop of a hat. Perhaps a vent fan could be added to the basement? If the unit still works, but overheats, then every little bit might help.

I would check for dust or other cooling air restriction including inside the box. Check the fan is running and replace as needed. Last resort try turning the amps down to lowest setting and see how that goes.

Worst case get a converter for charging and just use the inverter function.

-do you have a temperature sensor mounted to the battery post?
-are your batteries OK(shorted cell)?
-are your batteries dry low on electrolyte?

My Prosine 2.0 is mounted under the dinnete seat next to four 6V gel cell batteries and I installed fresh air duct to the Prosine for better cooling and 3.0" exhaust duct for good air circulation. I programmed max charging current at 90A and it will start charging with 90A even if the batteries are only about 25% down. The maximum batteries temperature I ever saw was 34* Celsius. It is working flawlessly since around 2006.

The Prosine fan seems to run more often when batteries are fully charged. The fan does not run when Prosine is working hard. Semiconductors run cooler when fully on.
