Yamaha ef2000is inverter generators with Twin Tech cables

I need a light genny for my four stroke snowmobile and a bigger one for my travel trailer as most camping i do is dry camping. After researching options, I plan on buying two Yamaha ef2000is inverter gennys and a Yamaha Twin Tech Cable. That way I can use one for my snowmobile and link them together for my camper. It looks like the Twin Tech Cable option is not available in Canada but that makes no sense.

Anyone use the Twin Tech Cable? Opinions? Any reason this is not available in Canada while it is in the USA? Maybe I missed something here.
  • I have the same units and use them like you want to. They work great for me. I use the "Sidewinder Twin Tech Cable Twin Tech system" it came with my generators when I ordered them from Wise Equipment. I like this cable as it has an RV connection.
  • Hi,

To be sure they will work I'd suggest getting them in USA. It may be cheaper that way too.

Another alternative is the Champion inverter generator.
  • They may not come with parallel ports, but unless they've also changed the internal wiring, you can make your own cables.

    I'm assuming they're wired like a Honda.
  • I have two Yamahas that I run parallel. They do work well, and I am happy with the purchase.

That said, if I was doing it again, I would likely go with Honda because their generators have fuel pumps that are more accommodating to a extended run tank.
  • I've read some related posts on this subject. Evidently CSA will not approve the parallel operation because the ground and neutral are not bonded. You can check but I believe that 2K generator sets sold in Canada do not have the parallel ports, where units sold in the US do. Some folks bought aftermarket kits and report some success, but I'd do a lot of research if I was planning on parallel operation of 2K generators in Canada.

What? I would rather give my local dealer the business as we need to support locals and they are great at that store but this may warrant a trip to Alaska. This is nuts. If it's good enough for the USA then it should be good enough for Canadians too. I always thought California had the toughest regs and set the pace. Why would Canadian code not permit parallel operation when you can in the USA?

Because the Canadian government is more caring and gentle and loves it's citizens more.

  • AFAIK the electric code in Canada does not permit parallel operation.
    Same goes for Honda.

    Take a road trip...
