Mae West quotes
By the way, the quote about 'is that a gun in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?' is from 'She Done Him Wrong' with Cary Grant. A real classic.
I was disappointed that the only movie she made with W.C. Fields was 'My little Chickadee'. Apparently they argued about the proceeds and never got along after that.
(Nice little cameo with Margaret Hamilton in that one, too.)
Before she did that movie with him, Cary Grant was just a young guy trying to get his big break. This is how it went down: Mae and the director we're planning the movie, and the director said we don't have a leading man yet. They discussed a few names, Mae said no, then as they we're talking Mae glanced out the window and noticed Cary Grant walk by. She told the director to bring him in. She asked his name, and when she heard his voice she said "your going to lead in this movie". That's how Cary got his start.
In "My Little Chickadee", there we're many times Mae put W.C. Fields off the set for being drunk. W.C. Fields use to say "somebody stole the cork off my lunch" and, "everybody has to believe in something. I believe I'll have another drink".
