You got that right! Only OnTrack is worse. - jjrbusExplorerI ordered something I did not need right away so did not go for rapid shipping, it showed up the next day. I paid for 2 day shipping for something I needed right away and it showed up a week later. Go figure. Jim
- Kayteg1Explorer IIHe..he.. I will not even say that 30-40 years ago sending packages by air was very expensive when the REAL shipment from China took 3-4 moths.
Life is getting easier and who do we blame that our kids don't want to work hard.
Years ago I struggle for couple of years to buy new Mercedes for family car.
2 months later my son comes from high school and says "my friend got exact new car for his 16th birthday" - fj12ryderExplorer IIIGotta love those rose colored 20/20 rear view glasses. :) Things were always so much better at some point in the past. Amazing how things improve with age. :) Except for that memory. LOL
I did a lot of shopping out of catalogs a 30-40 years ago and you got the package when you got it. You couldn't go "online" and check the shipping info, tracking number, or what have you. If you were in a hurry you called the company and asked, and the information you got may, or may not, have been current. Most places put it right on the order page: Takes 2-4 weeks for shipping. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerBut the point is this: young people are learning the confounding stupidity of "It depends on the meaning of the word 'is'". Say what you mean and mean what you say.
I guess it was and is my aptitude that led me into my profession. I sneer at people or businesses that Blow Smoke.
"I need those battery tests sooner than I expected!"
"Can you do something for me?"
"What?"
"Make the earth spin faster"
But younger folks take this in stride. They fall head-over-heels for buzzwords and con jobs. I believe the vernacular at one time was "Shining It On"
I live in the land of "Posible Manana". It is used to keep up a person's spirits because manana may come and 5,000 following mananas later the conversation is forgotten and things usually work out.
But eBay isn't Mexico. It's young people bowing and scraping to the unreality of "It depends on the meaning of the word 'is'". In school if a teacher caught us "Shining It On" we got a birch pointer rapped sharply across the knuckles.
And things get slower and more unreal and words are meaningless never mind promises. Today Amazon is making a fortune because for the most part their "Prime" does what stores of 30 years ago did normally
Delivery Date April 19 - May 30
God wotta joke... - SaltiDawgExplorerNone of the stuff I get from China thru amazon.com has Shipping Status available.
Additionally, I have not found the Estimated Delivery Date to be at all accurate. - Kayteg1Explorer IIMy favorite is USPS combined with US customs.
I live 25 miles east of San Francisco and buy lot of stuff from China.
So on
day 1 the package leaves Shenyang (or whatever)
day 3 arrives in San Francisco
day 4 in customs
day 5 in customs
day 6 in customs
day 7 in customs
day 8 leaves customs and goes to Sacramento what is 80 miles east from me, or 100 miles from SF
day 9 leaves Sacramento and goes to Richmond, what is between me and SF
day 10 goes to departure facility in San Pablo
day 11 reaches me.
Than I had Amazons orders placed Friday afternoon and delivered on Sunday. - MrWizardModeratorMy luck has been
If it shipped from an Amazon wharehouse
It normally arrives when stated
It it shipped from the sellers location in outer who knows where
I get a shipping notice that does not mean a DANG thing
Except it's in their sold list and hopefully on its way to the one man shipping Dept to. Be picked up in three to five days - Empty_Nest__SooExplorer

Agreed. But their performance in delivering is often better than the private delivery services.
Sometimes I find it a little entertaining when I can watch all the details from UPS to track a package from central Ohio, to the eastern panhandle of WV, to NC, to a different depot in NC, to southern WV, to our home in east-central WV over the course of a week. USPS is pretty certain to get it here in 1 or 2 days. Or, UPS can sometimes get a package to me from CA in 3 days. Go figure.
Some years ago, I had Fedex dump a somewhat valuable package on a front porch on a different street in our town. Happily, the homeowner was kind enough to call me to come get it.
I prefer to have things shipped to me my USPS. My experience with them has been better over the years.
