Another solution is to have a hybrid inverter/charger.
The 30 amp service is only intended to run 24 amps continuous. The Yamaha Sieb 3000 and the Honda 3000 are a pretty good match for that--they do about 22 amps.
My Yamaha is mated to a Magnum 3000 watt hybrid inverter/charger. The inverter does "load support" so any surges are taken care of by it. That means I can run the generator in eco mode.
Mostly I use my solar system. I'd love to quintuple my solar farm wattage. If I did so I would be able to run the roof air while the sun is shining.
