one look at top grade commercial cables, and you will see a multi-sided crimp
pushing in from at least (4) directions at the same time
the crimpers we are buying do not work that way, hence the ears
you can mitigate that some, by starting the crimp with a die that is too large
then use a smaller die, then rotate the wire/lug in crimper and crimp again a third time, makes a nicer looking crimp with smaller identifiable ears
i put heat shrink on it afterwards, hides everything and seals the connection to keep out corrosion
