My dad had a new 67 or 68 F100. Tires went VERY fast!!! He even tried wider front tires. The steering box was bad and it was replaced but no difference. I remember the front suspension being chained down and getting the hell bent out of it, still no better. Later in life I owned a 69 F100 Ranger and it drove like a dream with ZERO tire wear issues.
And todays Twin I Beam has "do not bend" casted into the I beam because of this practice. The twin I-Beam from a highway drivability standpoint is just not a good design and I'm surprised Ford still uses this design on their E Series vans and Super Duty's although they have been improved a little.
