The problem wasn’t your radiator to begin with. And it’s not over heating it’s over pressurizing. Two different things.
And that truck is speed limited unless the tune you may or may not have raised or removed it.
They don’t go faster than 80, stock, as I recall. And that’s hugging 3k rpms with 4:88s in OD.
Do a coolant system pressure test under load. I suspect you may not like the results. Hope I’m wrong.

close, you would have to work out the math, but they are bassed on rpm (3800-4000) rpm is where the limiter kicks in, but yes it usaly worked out to 75 to 85 mph depending on tire size and gearing. so I would suspect you were hugging close to 4K rpm.

I've asked myself, did I hit 3000 or 3500? Well, in all this confusion, I had to ask myself, do you feel lucky, punk, well, do you?
Honestly, I was observing the temp readout on the scanner, and speed, I didn't look at the rpm. I'll have to go test again at some point. I'm happy with the info I have. At 70 or less, I have no coolant or heating issues. If I have to, I'll replace the head gaskets. A little more complicated than the 5.4 head gasket job but not a problem. If I go to that much trouble, I will get heads with O-rings and injector cups. That will be as good as it gets for this engine. There are other serviceable items to change in the engine top end to improve reliability. O-rings and head studs are the best improvements. Meanwhile, we're ready to head to Quartsite. Taking a new route this year, 395 from Pendleton all the way down to the end, then east to Q. Should be fun and full of interesting things to see and do.

Good luck once the weather warms up down south if you couldn’t keep er cool here in 40deg rain.
Must be stoppin in Vegas for a spin given your propensity for gambling risk?

The math is more like 3k at 80mph in OD with 4.88s, 4k if in drive 1:1.
Been a long time, because those trucks especially the med duty ones got dished off quickly in commercial applications for all the reasons discussed.
But I recall the same commutes where I’d be pegged at 93mph or whatever a sooper doody f250 gasser was speed limited at. In a 550 I recall a hard cutoff well before redline.- StirCrazyDec 07, 2025Moderator
I was just quoting the info from ford, wasn't doing the math. they say the speed limiter is rpm bassed at 3800 to 4000 rpm. if your rpm's wernt that high you were out of power not hitting the speed limiter. UNLESS like my stupid work place they impose their own speed limiter on the truck. (we are limited to 60kph in most truck on the mine sites that are not licenced 🙄)
now the 6L wasn't a supper power house by any means so if you had a good load it may have just run out of get up and go haha
as for the f250's and 350's in a 6L they have been hitting 130mph in factory trim some higher some lower
