They don’t go faster than 80, stock, as I recall. And that’s hugging 3k rpms with 4:88s in OD.
close, you would have to work out the math, but they are bassed on rpm (3800-4000) rpm is where the limiter kicks in, but yes it usaly worked out to 75 to 85 mph depending on tire size and gearing. so I would suspect you were hugging close to 4K rpm.
I've asked myself, did I hit 3000 or 3500? Well, in all this confusion, I had to ask myself, do you feel lucky, punk, well, do you?
Honestly, I was observing the temp readout on the scanner, and speed, I didn't look at the rpm. I'll have to go test again at some point. I'm happy with the info I have. At 70 or less, I have no coolant or heating issues. If I have to, I'll replace the head gaskets. A little more complicated than the 5.4 head gasket job but not a problem. If I go to that much trouble, I will get heads with O-rings and injector cups. That will be as good as it gets for this engine. There are other serviceable items to change in the engine top end to improve reliability. O-rings and head studs are the best improvements. Meanwhile, we're ready to head to Quartsite. Taking a new route this year, 395 from Pendleton all the way down to the end, then east to Q. Should be fun and full of interesting things to see and do.
