Last week I bought this 1976 Ford F-250 4-wd, gratefully it isn't a highboy. I really think I stole it after searching for another truck. Body and paint a bit rough but very little to almost no rust.Once I put my camper on my other truck I no longer have a PU. I've only taken the camper off of my truck once since March and I'll be using thru the end of November.The truck needs a lot. Its been sitting outside for nearly 20 years. Started and driven a few miles about once a year.It has a 390 2-bbl out of 1966 Mercury Monterey. Runs pretty good after giving it a tuneup.Replaced a bunch of stuff like the grill, battery tray, dash pad, seat cover, brake/clutch pedal pads and some other misc stuff. Still have lots to go.My new tires arrived Monday so I took some steel wool to the Dodge chrome wheels and then had the tires mounted and balanced.I like it. :B

I used to have a 1969 F-250 with a 390 engine and a 4 barrel carb, that truck was a beast only got about 6 to 10 miles a gallon but the sheet metal was strong. You have a great truck.

I had a 78 in the early 2000's. The biggest problem I had was the plastic panels inside the doors cracking and falling apart. Actually built wooden panels to replace them.

It's nice to have a 66 engine instead of one of the 76 messes they built! That low of mpg might be a blown power valve in the carb. Craig

I'd take a 1966 390 over a 1976 360 every day of the week.

It does need the carb gone thru and new valve stem seals. Other than that it seems run pretty good.

Good looking trucks posted and did anyone else note the placement of gas tank in that era of trucks? My sis and BIL bought a used F150 w/ 300 inline 6 and that thing was a great truck as it saw a lot use on their farm. Then they bought a relatives F250 w/ 351 and like the 150 was a great truck. MPG's were in the toilet, but ran great for many years.

Yup, ~20 gallons of gasoline right behind the seats inside the cab. A second one under the bed of the truck on some models.

The aux tank on mine is an aftermarket tank.

Pretty amazing that you never small any gas.

I believe a 460 will fit right in where a 390 has been. That would be my choice

Takes more changes to go 460 than change 360/390.
I worked a '75 F 350 a few winters (Holmes wrecker bed) My last tool truck was old F 500. Both trucks had 460 in at times, but I went back to 360 in both. The bigger engines did make the truck go faster stoplight to stoplight, but the way I used them the extra fuel cost hurt. The trucks where never MT, the one ton was loaded or overloaded.
All the time I worked those trucks I was half-donkey shopping for a 330 inch Y block from early '60 like I had in the '56 F 5 with dump bed. No issue moving 5 tons of rock, or Bobcat on the trailer, did pretty good on gas.
BTW, once got a used 460 mounted in a friends truck. When ready to put clutch in we discovered the crank did not have hole for pilot bearing.

Nice truck... The one thing I couldn't understand is why Ford predominantly used 2 barrel carburetors in their trucks which made them real slugs.

My 69 F100 Ranger 360 2 barrel was a DOG. Changed a couple things wa-la 390 plus 4 barrel was bad azz and got better fuel economy. Had the C6 BUILT and was amazing.
