- Me_AgainExplorer IIISo boat 3500
Trailer 600-800
Fuel 275
Gear on board 150
So we are at 4525 to 4725 pounds behind a jeep with a 2000-3500 tow rating! Go for it.
OH yeah, was the tongue jack down for the picture? - Grit_dogNavigator II

So the truck camper pulls that combo pretty good?
Yes. Jeep was not part of the combo though. Buddy towed his Jeep behind their moho.
But the boat feels largely non existent with the TC loaded. Mileage is very close with camper on, with or without the boat. I notice the boat a bit more rowing through the lower gears getting up to speed but once I’m into 5th or 6th gear, wind resistance takes over rolling resistance to a great extent.
It is a bit more stable with a trailer on the hook than driving bobtail with only the TC.
I think because I have a heavy camper on a short srw truck, the friction in the trailer coupler actually reduces body roll of the truck a little. - Grit_dogNavigator IISurfs pretty well for a 20’ boat. This is the better part of 2000lbs ballast and over 1000lbs of human ballast.

LOL... I'm sure there's not tail wagging the dog there!
Actually it towed straight as an arrow and stopped well with the surge brakes. Able to drive with one hand on the wheel and never spilled a beer!
Did drop to 45 mph floored in 2nd gear up a grade.
For those thinking it’s a staged photo. We drug the boat about 10 miles from campsite to launch on the highway multiple times.
Best part was the reactions of the folks at the boat ramp! It was otherwise uneventful.
More so this post is for the “1 ton to pull a pop up” crowd. Boat + trailer is about 6000lbs. Being pulled with a drivetrain that’s has the same power as pickup trucks of years past and likely About the same braking ability.
Would I want to tow it hundreds of miles? Nope.
Would it plug down the road at 55-60 mph slowing a bit on uphill grades? Yup - Grit_dogNavigator II
