My 2000 Excursion PowerStroke.
How do you like the Excursion? Been looking to get into the TT life and with 5 of us the Excursion with the diesel seems a better choice than maybe a Suburban. What kind of fuel mileage you get towing and not towing? I believe from what people say to try and stay away from the 6.0 and get the 7.3 diesel. Just curious. Thanks
I love it. Aside from the soft factory springs it's an awesome family/tow rig. I'm updating the springs to the stiffer F250 springs, which is a popular mod and will take care of the 'soccer mom' ride quality Ford shot for. I do have an airbag kit in the rear along with an add a leaf from the lift so the rear is set up well for towing.
Look for a 2000-2003 7.3, I can't tell you how many horror stories I've heard regarding the 6.0. Sure many people have had zero issues but I wouldn't want to take that kind of chance. With a few mods the 7.3 can make a ton of power and torque. Mine feels very light on it's feet for an 8K lb truck. I often find myself playing with cars half my weight. :)
The biggest difference besides the diesel option between the X and Suburban is the chassis. The X just a full body bolted to an F250 chassis. Real suspension (although softer for comfort, easily fixed) with a solid front axle. The size may scare you at first but it's a quick adjustment. My wife used it as a daily driver for a while and warmed up to it quickly.
I don't have mpg with our new TT yet but we got 14 mpg towing my 4Runner out to Moab. With me driving I can get around 18 mpg hwy. Another point is, I feel my family is much safer in this than anything else. You won't be dissapointed with an Excursion.
