That is why US Pickups have failed totally here.,nothing to do with towing.
I just named a few of the major reasons why small trucks are more popular there. Aside from the fuel prices and how Australia has to share the "global" small trucks regulations with other countries, there are other factors like conversions costs and special licencing for some of our trucks sold over there because they have a higher tow capacity. Then there is the factor that Australia is not that big of a market to open a new factory over there specifically for our big trucks or for the added costs to ship them and converting them over to right wheel drive.
However, there still is a market and according to your news agencies, it is growing.

Power: 130kW/450Nm
Fuel consumption: 7.6L/100km
Payload: 925kg
Towing capacity: 3500kg
Ford Ranger WildtrakPrice: $60,000

That is a steep price that is probably not afforded by most which plays a big roll in how many are sold.

I do not believe you have been outside NA, you indicate very strongly you have not.
Well my Navy records state otherwise. How many times have you been to the US?

We do not have a displacement Tax either
Please go back and read where I stated "
Even though Australia never had a displacement tax, they had to live with these smaller vehicles since they shared the "global vehicles" market. "

From the specs of the US version of the Isuzu N-series.

Fuel has been pretty cheap relatively in Australia.
Not compared to North America. If it were, then you would not be so concerned about fuel mileage over more power.
