Something you guys have not factored in to this discussion is parts and support for your chosen vehicle. There are Asian and Euro vehicles that appeal to me even in North America, but I don't want the hassles of having to source parts and qualified service for them. Even with my Ram, I find convenient and qualified service lacking compared to my Ford - I could just image trying to get parts for unique vehicle in low density populated area and then finding someone qualified to do the work.
I also have traveled in Australia (only the eastern half) and lived in Europe, so I see that conditions and infrastructure are significantly different. I would own a North American vehicle in Australia only if I did most of my own service work and I did not depend on it as my daily driver due to delay in getting parts. In Europe, I would avoid North American AND Asian vehicles - Choosing a Euro brand would give me the least amount of headaches.
