OP, there is a very good reason why 7.3L trucks have such high value; it is still the best diesel engine that Ford ever put into a truck. I looked long and hard for a cherry crew cab 4x4 DRW Lariat 7.3L prior to buying my current truck, but struck out. :(
You can also add the 5.9 cummins was the best engine Dodge Ram put into a truck as well.
I bought a new 2001 CTD in 2001. It was used in construction from day one. I drove that truck for over 300,000 miles. I added 100 hp to it along the way. Deleted everything related to smog. Chipped it. Added the air intake ****. I LOVED that truck. But, being in California, there eventually was a code that couldn't be cleared so it couldn't be smogged. I tried everything and anyone to get that code cleared. When this F350 popped up, I couldn't say no. The worse thing about the F350 is the driver seat. It is not centered to the steering wheel. I have two buddies with the same model,a 2001 and 1999. They both have the same seat position problem. That seat should be 2" wider. There's plenty of room for it.
Besides that, this truck (2000 F350 7.3 diesel) is fine. Not as much umph as the Dodge, but, at 64 years old, I don't care any longer. Yeah, I could chip it, but why? This truck will last me until I can no longer drive, then maybe I'll give it to one of my grandsons. It might have 250,000 miles on it in 10 years.
