Hey,So I have a travel trailer that I live in full time. Where it's at right now (unless I dig a little) the output for the camper tanks are very low. I have an external tank that I plan to fill and bring to my local dump station. The problem is that it's not an easy operation since the external holding tank is higher than the camper tank. I was wondering if there was a better solution than tearing up the ground to empty my tanks. I'm hoping theres some type of syphoning hose out there or something.Thanks ahead for any advice

A siphon will not work if the tank you want to put the liquid into is higher than the tank on the trailer.The best solution I see is a macerator.Steve

Is there a spot somewhere around your trailer where the external tank could be placed lower than the internal holding tank? Then you would just need a sewer hose long enough to reach it. Maybe just need an extension hose or borrow someone's if you're in a campground?

The macerator pump can work at both ends -from camper to tank and then from tank to wherever you are going to dump. The macerator can enable you to pump the sewage into a toilet at a friend's house, for instance. If you haul your portable tank in the bed of a truck, you will not have to take it out of the bed with the macerator. You will need a 12-volt supply to power the macerator.It pumps through garden hose. I would recommend a heavy-duty hose for sure.

No need for heavy 6 gauge wire - years ago when I first got my FloJet Waste Macerator I wired up a 12 gauge extension cable long enough to reach from the waste gate area to the front of the trailer where I could plug the trailer's Bargman into the cable and thereby provide power to the macerator. That cable was about 20' long and it's the same cable I now have installed permanently on our current trailer - has worked just fine for all these years. :B

+1 to just pump the waste up into the tank sitting in the truck bed.

Voltage drop is hard on these 12v pumps. If you are not prepared to make a permanent mount connection I would just make up a custom cable with battery clamps on one side and an Anderson connector on the other. Probably #6 wire.

Oh I see. I'll keep that in mind. Maybe one day I'll pay someone to do it but props for wiring in your own, soundguy. That's pretty cool.

Of course you don't, no trailer does - just install one yourself, it's a standard vehicle end Bargman connector. Wire the battery positive to Pin 4 and battery negative to Pin 1 on the Barman, likewise wire a trailer Bargman end to the macerator - simple.

And if I'm thinking correctly, a 12 volt battery is a scooter/motorcycle battery.

Your trailer should have a deep cycle battery, usually mounted on the tongue - a basic Group 24 will serve this purpose just fine.

SoundGuy ADDED that plug. 12V battery is what most trailers use to power all the 12V accessories....like your on board waterpump.

As Soundguy pointed out.....running power back to where the pump is installed really is the best option...especially if you are going to use the macerator on a regular basis.

If you can't do it...pay someone who can and be done with it.
It will make your life less complicated:)

Mbopp, I am definitely no electrician. I wish I could do that but I wouldn't know where to start.

And Soundguy, I'm afraid I don't have an outlet like that near the sewage output. And if I'm thinking correctly, a 12 volt battery is a scooter/motorcycle battery. Right? I wouldn't mind even carrying a standard car battery along with the macerator, I'm assuming the 12 volt battery would be a proper way to do it and I wouldn't risk blowing a fuse on camper.

Why would you do that, then have to lift a heavy battery every time you wanted to run the macerator? :h Much simpler to just run +/- 12 vdc from the battery back to your waste gate location, just as I did, wiring the cable to Pins 1 & 4 of a standard Bargman connector. Just plug the macerator in and turn it on. FWIW, the trick to not blowing the macerator's fuse is to first manually exercise the macerator's drive shaft with a flat blade screwdriver.

You could get another 7-pin plug and wire it to tap off the 12V charge line.

I do have a battery on the tongue of the travel trailer but I feel like getting a 12V battery would be easier to bring it wherever the pump is.
And after reading the reviews on amazon most people seemed to be more than satisfied with how those pumps where performing except when it clogs/blows a fuse.
But this is definitely a solution for my problem, thanks again for the replys
