% discount off MSRP?

We are looking at buying a 2015 Silverado 3500SRW. What kind of discount should we expect or hope for, or will they be marked way up beacuse they are the new kid on the block? Thanks!

  • Hint: Dealer Invoice and what the dealer really pays for it is no where near the same thing. A dealer depending on his discounts is making some where between 5,000 to 8,000 on a truck costing 55,000 that was sold at "Dealer Invoice". Why else would dealer sell a truck making
zero money and still have to pay the salesman and overhead.
  • we have a dealer here in town who sells all his trucks for 500 over invoice. that is what I paid for mine.
  • ....or just decide how much you're willing to pay in terms of $$ and let the (dealer, internet, whatever) know that that figure is your limit.

If the figure ends up being X% off MSRP, great. If not, you don't care because you've determined what you're willing to pay. If the seller won't match it, great, because without a willing buyer and willing seller, you don't have a market.

If your budget is $50,000, will you pay $60,000 if it is 50% off MSRP? If you're willing to pay that much, then that was your budget, not the original 50,000.

Folks get too wrapped around the axle about getting some magical number off....set your own limits and go from there.

I found a local dealer that will sale me a new vehicle at dealer invoice. True dealer invoice as published on line and I get all rebates. This dealer allows me to see his invoice and I compare it to what available on line to confirm that this is the manufacturers dealer invoice. NO ADD ON COST. This has been our agreement and I have purchased 5 new vehicles this way. I have been able to go online and "build" the vehicle the way I wanted it. This has allowed me to get all the options I wanted without getting more that I wanted. It has worked for me. Could i have gotten a better deal? Maybe, but I have been happy with this arrangement. It has worked for me.

X2- this is exactly how I do it. I get to build the truck the way I want it, at price I am willing to pay with no negotiations and never set foot into dealer showroom. All via Internet.
This is tough to do if trading though.

  • Don't even speak of MSRP. Find out how close to invoice price the dealer will get. Then shop other dealers to see what they are offering. Depending on demand for the new models they may sell at or close to invoice, or they may be well above. But at least you will know what their pricing is.
And any manufacturer rebates available should be taken off after you know their sale price relative to invoice.
You can find MSRP and invoice pricing on sites like edmunds.com, nada.com, kbb.com, etc.
And if you plan on trading something in, keep that price negotiation totally separate until you agree on their price for their new truck.
Also check newspaper ads and dealer web sites for special pricing. They will not always tell you of a special ad they are running unless you tell them you saw it.
