They finally figured out a way to make buying a gasser the best option because it is my understanding that the new Common Rail Fuel System with electronic injectors in a diesel is bad news.
Common rail has not hurt diesels, made them better quieter and more powerful.
Just wait till you get a new one and get it up around 100,000 miles. You'll really begin to notice the price of electronic injectors. With power comes a price and a huge trade off in this case with a fuel system 3 times more likely to completely ruin an engine over that of on a well timed mechanical injection pump.
I see that you have a truck in your avatar that is a second gen dodge. If it is the 24 valve Cummins... that injection pump is the easiest one to change and with two stroke oil in the fuel, will last 250 k and beyond. New injectors for it are 400 bucks, but new the Common Rail electronic injectors up to $4800 bucks and less reliable.
Injectors is why I got rid of my 2003 Duramax 2500hd with 95,000 miles. My son in law wanted it even after I told him I think the injectors were going bad. Sold it to him for $16,000.00 and the injectors went out in 30 days. Cost him $5,000.00 to replace them. It was all rigged to haul a TC. He gave me the 19.5 tires and rims and the TC frame mounts. He kept the Big Wig sway bar and the air bags. It runs better now but I wonder how long :B. Injectors were replaced at 60,000 miles before I bought it. I will probably never go back to a diesel. Cost too much to repair. I like my gasser F350 :B
