% off MSRP on Chevy/GMC

When I bought my Ram back in March of 2014 I paid 39,400 for a truck that was MSRP @ 48,800. So, I roughly paid 80% of MSRP. My business partner is shopping for a new Chevy/GMC and the best he's been able to get is about 10% off MSRP which just seems like not enough.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if Chevy/GMC runs their prices similar to Ram in terms of inflating the MSRP. I was under the impression that all of the big-3 have ballpark similar pricing schemes but I'm not super in touch with the subject unless I'm actively shopping.

Thanks for any info.
  • Depends a lot on the dealer and how low they will go. But also depends a lot on current manufacturer rebates and manufacturer to dealer incentives.
  • One good way to check prices is to look at completed listings on Ebay, for actual selling prices. Now you have to be very careful to compare exactly the same options, but there are lots of trucks sold on Ebay.

Pickup demand is up due to lower gas prices.... so higher demand may make it more of a seller's market.
  • Some GM websites I visit, I regularly see 10-15% off from posters. For those who shop hard and are patient for the right deal, 20% does exist. GM is also offering 20% off MSRP on some older inventory, at least locally. I actually got mine for a little more than 20% off.
  • Have you checked Dennis Dillon GMC in Idaho? They have pretty good pricing. At the very least its a good starting point with a local dealer.
