One other concern is how you'll register it after it's been totaled and has a "salvage title". Most (all?) states will require a special inspection to register a titled vehicle, so you should probably see what the procedure is in your state and what their requirements will be.
You probably can't legally tow it on the roads with a salvage title, so you might need to get it flat bedded to wherever you want to work on it.
