Could you imagine how useless a Forum would be if deleting old post was standard practice? Usually, a Thread builds from the posts made on it, and for the most part flows with a given discussion. You can pick the Thread, and imagine if every fourth post was deleted. It would sure have a negative impact on the search function. Maybe we should delete every Thread after it is two days old? Why make the post if you want to delete it. The fact is, it is not fair to the Forum or it's members.
On occasion, a post is deleted, by the poster, Moderator, or Admin. There are many reasons a post may be deleted. It should not be often that a post should be deleted by the poster. If the poster decides they do not like their choice of words, editing the post might be a better option.

Reddog1 - The reason I was surprised and asked about the "old post delete" and banning a guy is, when I look at my posts, it only goes back to 2012 and all post beyond that are gone? So, it made no sense that a guy would be banned if he deleted old posts - I understand the idea that it breaks up a thread, but that's recent threads, not old threads. SO, that's how I understood that post ...
And, it makes the search option less effective if one year old threads disappear - because some very informative threads are more than a year or two old ... some of the repair and fix-it ones remain informative no matter how old. So, that comment made me wonder for the moment.
