My guess is that silicone and all the other silicone based caulks seal. My problem with the silicone is that when it eventually fails, and it will, it is a huge PIA to remove and clean the area. The silicone residue is there forever it seems.
Case in point;
My old 1997 Lance camper, when I got it, it had been caulked with silicone, all of the joints and seams were peeling off. to remove the rest of the caulking and the residue was a huge job.
I think that using almost anything else would be a good thing when it comes time to remove and replace
