1000 miles on 2015 Silverado 6.2/8 speed

Have just over 1000 miles after 2 weeks on my new 2015 Silverado LTZ 6.2 w/ max tow. Pretty simply, there isn't anything I don't like about it. Took a trip to Carlisle PA. last week and got 19.5 mpg with 300 miles on it. It's getting 17.8 with a combination of city and highway. Truck is VERY quiet. Tons of power,(I've had a 6.2 before). So far,so good with the 8 speed. It's behaving very well and not "hunting' at all, however there is an occasional "clunk" when accelerating from a sharp turn. Much like some other GM trucks I've had in the past. The biggest jump by far in refinement of Chevy trucks I've had over the years. I ordered it because there was no way I'd ever find what I wanted and didn't want on the lot. It's an LTZ only because that's the only trim the 6.2 comes in. I also excluded quite a few things that you would typically find on an LTZ. By researching the GVWR and payload numbers, I figured it would have around 2000lbs of payload. It came delivered with 1987lbs.

  • Thanks for the nice comments! First trip will be 1st week of June. No 6% grades here so that's not a concern but I'd imagine it would do fine. This isn't my 1st 6.2.
  • Hmmm. I've been researching that very model online. May have to kick some tires. Could be expensive, but then I've been sorta waiting for the 2016 Ni$$an Titan with the Cummin$ and 6 $peed. Silverado may be my next truck...
  • Nice truck, great engine and I'm impressed with the MPG.

Powerful gas engines, multi speed transmissions and good MPG. Back in the late '70's and 80's I would never have thought this combination of good things would ever happen.

    We're in a golden era.
  • I am glad you are happy with your truck. I sure wasn't a fan of that new Chevy bodystyle when it first came out, but it has grown on me. That is a nice looking truck you have there.
  • Awesome!. Bet it is a rocket on flat ground with 8 speed. Just wondering how it does on a 6 mile 6% grade towing 6 to 8K pounds. We need feed back as you run it through trials.
  • LOVE my 6.2L with the NHT package. So glad I decided to go with this instead of a diesel. You will not be disappointed, even when you hook up 5T to the back.
  • Congrats! I love that 6.2L, but never driven with 8-spd. It's gotta be a rocket. When is the first towing trip?
