11 foot garage door

First post here, Thanks for having us..

Wife and I are wondering if there is a truck camper hard side that would be low enough to get into our 11 foot high garage door without removing the camper off the truck? We currently have a Lance 1181 and we are upwards of 12-4..
May downsize to a smaller camper and truck if we can find one that we could drive into our garage.
Any ideas would be great

  • No can't make the door higher .. we just built the Garage and city bylaw has a height restriction so we put a flat roof on to squeeze a 11 foot high door in..
  • You have a tall truck.like mine. I need just under 12 ft and I don't have air. This might be a dumb question but is it physically possible to put in a taller opening/door ? How tall is the ceiling height ?
  • My 2000, 920 Lance on my last 2500 4x4 was under 10'6" top of ac.

  • If it comes down to "by the skin of your teeth", dropping air in the air bags can make a 2" to 3" difference.
  • Might be easier to build some type of dolly or set it onto a small trailer. Every time I write the check for my storage unit I wish I had a pop up. The owner says I have paid for my space 3 times. Covenants prohibit my storing it in the driveway, and not enough room alongside the garage.

My Northstar Laredo is about 11' 6". That includes the air conditioner on top. Without an AC, you might just squeeze in.

Lastly, have you considered an Alaskan camper. They are hard sided but collapse down for travel.
  • My rig (check signature) measures at approximately 10'6" high, but it is only 86" wide. I have the swing out brackets on it just to make it easier for me to load, it probably is not wide enough for a dually. You will probably have to give up having a basement to get under 11'.
  • I am not sure any TC with a basement on a 4x4 truck would be that low.

My TC has no basement, and my truck is a 2 wheel drive. Ground to highest point is 10'3". I do have my TC sitting on 4x4s, so I could drop it sown to about 10 feet.

My personal thought would to buy a carport to accommodate the TC and truck you have. Actually, I would go with a 14-foot door height. This of course assuming you have a place for the carport. The money you will loose trading in your current truck and TC would pay for the carport, plus in the future you will have no height restrictions.
  • My Eagle Cap with a basement and air conditioner are at about 11'-4". Units without a basement or an air conditioner would likely fit. Measure your bed height and then start doing specification checks on smaller campers. The specs will likely not include AC added height so add a foot to the camper height listed.
  • Northern Lite without a basement should fit as long as your truck isn't too tall.
  • We have a 12 ft. door in our barn and there was about 3 ft. of clearance for our Northstar TC650 when the top was popped up.
